Fleming Fund Regional Gran EQAsia

Strengthen the provision of External Quality Assessment (EQA) services across the One Health sector in South and Southeast Asia

The United Kingdom, Department of Health and Social Care under its Fleming Fund Grants Program has provided funding with the aim of addressing critical gaps in surveillance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in low- and middle- income countries (LMICs) in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Technical University of Denmark (DTU – Lead Grantee) and International Vaccine Institute (IVI) were awarded the regional grant to implement External Quality Assurance scheme for AMR in South- and Southeast Asian countries.

The programme was initiated in 2020 and has since then established a regional, comprehensive EQA programme relevant to all One Health sectors across Asia.

The EQAsia architecture includes various capacity building efforts including a wide range of training activities, individual consultations and site visits for laboratories that experience diagnostic challenges and a pilot project supporting national provision of EQAs.
