Learn more about whole genome sequence analysis

Food safety
Attend a three-day workshop on whole genome sequencing analysis for microbial diagnostic, identification, and cluster analysis on 22-24 June 2022.

Do you want to improve your professional skills on antimicrobial resistance monitoring and outbreak investigations with more knowledge about whole genome sequencing (WGS) analysis?

Join a three-day workshop about the methodologies for sequencing, the type of bioinformatic tools available, critical aspects of WGS and much more. The workshop will focus on WGS analysis for microbial diagnostic, identification and cluster analysis.

The three days will consist of lectures and hands-on training, where you will get knowledge on:

  • the methodologies for sequencing, data processing, experimental design, assessing the quality of the methodology and the datasets, quality parameters, calculation of average read depth/minimum read depth, assembling and analyzing the sequences, and the possibilities to apply it in risk assessment, surveillance, diagnostic and characterization for microorganisms.
  • the process, the type of bioinformatic tools available, what information we may retrieve from the sequence analysis, gene detection, sequence alignment tools and the advantages and limitations in using the WGS approach.
  • the critical aspects to focus on when using WGS.

Most of the bioinformatics tools used in the training is web-based, so no strong bioinformatics background is needed to attend. You will use your own computer for exercises.

The workshop is in English.
